Two opening receptions at Arts Center tonight
'Miracles' and 'Masquerade: Expressions of Healing' exhibits will open today with a reception from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. It is free to the public.
SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) - Nebraska Arts Center, with the support of the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, is pleased to present the 2020 President’s Show, an exciting collection of original artworks based on a theme.
This year’s theme is: “Miracles” and was chosen by Cher Maybee, WNAC Board President.
She got the idea of this theme from a poem called Miracles by John Knight.
This is a judged show open to all media and artistic styles, participants are invited to submit original artwork that conveys an interpretation of the theme.
Executive Director, Michele Denton, says, “I love how universal this show is and it comes at a perfect time. The summer may not be what we are used to, but it still can be wonderfully creative. It is curious that 2020 would open our eyes to a new normal. It’s always great to see this community coming together and pushing through these odd times. This exhibit is truly perfect to remember just how lucky we are to have so much talent within our town. Make sure to stop by to see this great show.”
The exhibit opens Thursday, July 2nd, with a reception from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
Unfortunately, staff will not be able to provide live music like before advertised.
However, staff will be serving hors d’oeuvres and other refreshments compliments of our Board of Directors members.
Gloves and masks will be used for serving of the food.
All are welcome to this free event.
Miracles can be viewed from now until August 2nd.
Also happening tonight, the Arts Center is pleased to present Masquerade: Expressions of Healing in the Bronson Gallery.
This is a non-juried exhibit open to all artists.
Masquerade is a classic tradition of masked balls where the participants hide themselves behind masks, but sometimes those masks can free a person to express who they really are.
What lives behind the mask, what is your mask made of or is there a mask at all?
These are some of the questions we dared to ask artists who tackled this theme.
In this time when a mask is used for protection, we thought this exhibit is very appropriate.
The mask concept is not new, but having it be some people’s daily attire is an unfamiliar practice.
With fears of COVID-19 and social stresses in our world, this exhibition could provide a new perspective into the human condition and purpose of masks.
This exhibit will open Thursday, July 2nd, with a reception from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
It will remain on display until August 30th.
This exhibit is generously sponsored by the Cirrus House and Snow Redfern Foundation, Inc.
Visit the gallery Tuesday through Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm and Saturday and Sunday from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.
The Arts Center is closed on Mondays.
The Arts Center will be closed July 4th through July 6th for the holiday.
Gallery admission is free and open to the public.
