A 15-year-old on life support after Alliance police find him shot

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) - A 15-year-old Alliance teen is on life support after police found him shot on Saturday evening, according to the Alliance Police Department.

Police responded to the 1500 block of Toluca Ave. at approximately 7:03 p.m. on Saturday to reports of a young male with a gunshot wound. Numerous witnesses reported the injury appeared to be accidental and self-inflicted, according to a press release.

The teen was transported to Box Butte General Hospital in critical condition before getting transferred to Regional West Medical Center Saturday evening, according to Alliance Police Chief Philip Lukens.

“The Alliance Police Department and the community as a whole are deeply saddened at this tragedy,” Chief Lukens said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are extended to the family and the children of our community as they endure the days to come. Our officers have coordinated with the schools, the crisis response team, and the native futures leader to provide support across the community.”

Police are currently conducting interviews to learn more about the incident, according to Chief Lukens.

“It could take a few weeks to conclude our analysis with lab results and other parts of the investigation,” Chief Lukens said.

The Alliance Police Department is conducting the investigation.
