Western Nebraska Community College gets Military Friendly School Designation
Receives this honor every year since 2010
SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) - Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) helps veterans continue their education. The college receives the 2021-2022 Military Friendly School Designation which recognizes a top institution for the military. WNCC says its aim to provide veterans a comfortable transition from military duty to the classroom.
“It’s just been a long time since they have had to sit down write a paper or had to sit in a classroom and listen to a lesson,” said Chris Wolf Military and Veterans Affairs Director. “We just try to calm them their nerves make them understand that we are their to support them and that their is lots of people in the same boat with them.”
WNCC staff said the Military and Veterans Affairs Office provides programs including an aviation program in Sidney. Some veterans choose to pursue counseling and psychology to help their fellow veterans.
“I was in the Marines for four years I was a parachute rigger and when I got out I had no idea what I wanted to do either,” said Michael Millikin Military and Veterans Affairs Advisor. “But I knew that I had the GI bill and I should probably use that before it goes away. You only have certain amount of time. I know that there is other people in my shoes probably waiting for that time to their thinking about whether they should go to school or not they no that their time is running out. Even if they just have questions they can come in and talk to us and we can get them straight.”
