SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) - In their last Alliance City Council meeting the council intended to vote on Tuesday if they would use a hiring firm in their city manager search. Instead they approve a contract and bring on Seth Sorensen.

Alliance officials say Sorensen was their top candidate back in December. Sorensen received the job offer and turned it down due to family reasons. The communication continued between the Alliance Mayor Mike Dafney and Seth Sorensen. Ultimately, Sorensen ended up changing his mind.

“I mentioned to him we were hiring a consultant come Tuesday and I probably wouldn’t be harassing him anymore about the job and so,” said Dafney. “He come back and said you know I am interested and it just kind of took off we worked out the details.”

Alliance officials said Sorensen’s salary will pay him annually $140,000 per year. Alliance city staff filled in as an interim for city manager duties.

“He had the experience he’s got over ten years of experience in the manager field and he’s a thinker. You can tell that he’s going to think through he’s not going to just react,” said Dafney. “He’s going to weigh what is going on and what’s the best way to go and which road we want to take here. I think he is going to be an excellent fit.”
