Gering ranks fourth safest city in Nebraska, according to report
Gering ranked fourth safest Nebraska city despite violent crime rising across the state.
SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) - The City of Gering ranked fourth out of the ten safest Nebraska cities, according to a SafeWise report published in March.
SafeWise, an online safety resource, surveyed Nebraskans and pooled FBI and census data and found that violent crimes across the state rose slightly between 2020 and 2021. The number of property crimes dropped.
The 2021 survey participants reported higher levels of personal experience with violent crime and property crime compared to 2020.
About half of Nebraskans said they feel worried about their safety on a daily basis, which is higher than the national average of 47%.
Still, seven in ten Nebraskans reported feeling safe calling Nebraska home.
In the ten cities ranked safest in the state, crime rates were lower than in Nebraska at large.
The three cities that were ranked safer than Gering were Schuyler, Seward, and La Vista.
Nationwide, Nebraska ranked twenty-first-lowest in violent crime and twenty-third-lowest in property crime.
