Richard Hickstein is the new police chief in Chadron
Hickstein says he is proud to serve his home
SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) - Richard Hickstein arrived to Chadron in 1995 and attended Chadron State studying criminal justice. In 1999 he joined the Chadron Police Department. Hickstein said he will invite the community’s input on how the police department is serving Chadron.
“I am the longest standing employee with in our department,” said Hickstein. “Everybody that’s come in pretty much I had a hand in hiring establishing the working relationship with those men and women comes naturally. Everybody has been very supportive the culture in the police department has been very positive. Comradery is picking up I think comradery in the city staff has picked up and we’re just going to build on that.”
Chadron Interim City Manager Milo Rust said the selection process began with 11 candidates. A three person civil commission board did the interview process narrowing it down to Hickstein. The City Manager alone makes the appointment for a new police chief. This time around Rust wanted the city council to be involved as well in the decision.
“We went ahead with the appointment we were lucky that Chief Hickstein said he would take the job which makes for a special day or special week,” said Rust. “Knowing that he will do for the community a good job for us.”
