Thedford Airport receives multi-million dollar grant
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - The Thomas Country Airport in Thedford received a $4.325 million grant. The federal government is allocating $1 billion to upgrade rural airports. Out of 37 Nebraska airports that applied for a grant, only three airports received it.
“People look at this and say why in the world Thedford, Nebraska is getting a new airport. There are people downtown who don’t realize how much air traffic we get in,” said Jack Johnston, Airplane Manager and President of the Thomas County Authority.
The money will be used to replace the runway and taxi with new concrete along with additional renovations.
“The big thing about this airport is that we are in the middle of the Sandhills,” said Johnston.
The Thomas County Airport is the nearest airport for pilots in about a 65-mile radius. Construction at the airplane is scheduled to be completed towards the end of July.
