One man is dead after a standoff in Scottsbluff

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) - One person is dead after a standoff in Scottsbluff on Monday.

Scottsbluff Police Department said there was an officer involved shooting. Officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of West Overland just before noon where a man had a gun. Immediate neighbors were evacuated from the area. most of the afternoon law enforcement tried to negotiate with the man to get him out. Attempts were unsuccessful and a team made entry and shot the man inside. Nebraska State Patrol is conducting the investigation. Law enforcement in the panhandle is a close knit unit when working these situations.

“We have the good fortune of all of the officers and administrators being able to work together,” said Kevin Spencer Police Chief Scottsbluff Police Department. “I think it’s kind of unique to our area that we all get along very well and we keep our organizational pride in check when it comes to events like this we rely on each other.”
