Chadron State adds women’s wrestling to athletics

Eagles to begin women’s wrestling later this year.

CHADRON, Neb. (KNEP) - Chadron State College has officially added women’s wrestling to its athletics’ program. The Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees approved the decision.

With the addition of women’s wrestling Chadron State will have 14 sports at the college. Women’s wrestling will be a winter sport and the Eagles will begin competition later in 2021.

Chadron State will be the first collegiate program in Nebraska to have women’s wrestling as an NCAA sport. This coming season there is expected to be a little over 40 schools with women’s wrestling if they reach that mark under NCAA Emerging Sports guidelines a championship tournament or event could be set up.

A search for a head coach is currently underway.
