SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) - It’s that time of year in the Panhandle and as of tomorrow will be the 100th anniversary of the Oregon Trail Days. Work crews are at Five Rocks in Gering setting up the carnival to provide exciting rides and amusements.

Oregon Trail Days staff said the starting events include the “Kickoff Barbecue” and “Art Show” in downtown Gering. The event celebrates the people who made the trip on the Oregon Trail and it brings the community together. Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for Oregon Trail Days Bill Schlaepfer has been coming since 1963.

“Like I said when I was a kid I came I live in Scottsbluff and I came over every year,” said Schlaepfer. “I enjoyed it so much it’s one of the reasons I got on the board so I could make sure that this continued and my grandkids have the opportunity to experience what I did.”
