Several local athletes finish strong at National High School Finals Rodeo

Minatare’s Trace Travnicek and Yoder’s Haiden Thompson earn top ten finishes in Lincoln.

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) - Several local Cowboys and Cowgirls finish strong at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Lincoln.

Scottsbluff’s Tate Talkington (Tie Down, Team Roping, and Reined Cow Horse ), Minatare’s Trace Travnicek (Tie Down), Yoder’s (WY) Haiden Thompson (Goat Tying) and Harrison’s Leif Meidell (Saddle Bronc) all competed at nationals.

Travnicek and Thompson thanks to strong performances qualified for the championship go-round.

Thompson finished her strong season with a championship taking top spot in the average in goat tying.

Thompson entered the championship go round second in the average but a strong run on Saturday pushed her overall total to 23.67 good enough to hold off Oregon’s Kennedy Buckner who took second in the average with a score of 23.68.

Travnicek finished with a score of 37.17 which placed him tenth nationally in the average for tie down. The senior competing in his first National Finals Rodeo will take his experience and success to Eastern Wyoming where he will become a student athlete for the Lancers and compete in rodeo.
