CHADRON, Neb. (KNEP) - The Chadron State football team was just a quarter away from pulling off a big upset in their home opener against nationally ranked Angelo State out of Texas.

However the Rams erased a 24 point deficit to defeat Chadron State 28-24 on Saturday. It seemed like the Eagles were on their way to an easy win as they used strong special teams and big plays to take a 24-0 lead late into the second quarter.

Angelo State scored a touchdown late in the second quarter to cut the lead to 24-7 at halftime. The Rams kept the pressure in the second half scoring two more touchdowns to close the lead to 24-21 going into the 4th quarter.

Then the Rams scored on a touchdown pass early in the 4th to go up 28-24. Chadron State had numerous opportunities to retake the lead but could not cash in down the stretch.

Chadron State would block four field goals and two punts in the contest but could not take full advantage of the contest.

Eagles fall to 0-2 on the season and will take on rivals South Dakota Mines on Saturday night.
