Scottsbluff comes up short on day one of Class B State Softball

HASTINGS, Neb. (KNEP) - The Scottsbluff softball team opening state tournament action Wednesday against Wahoo came up short falling 13-5.

Bearcats came out of the gates strong taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Wahoo answered with 3 in the bottom of the first to lead 3-1 into the second inning.

Scottsbluff answered tying the contest in the top of the inning only to see Wahoo score six runs in the bottom of the 2nd and then three more runs in the 3rd inning and they never looked back.

Taryn Spady led the Scottsbluff attack going 3 for 3 with 2 RBI and a home run. Mariyah Avila chipped in with a 2 for 4 day and a home run.

Bearcats will now have to play out of the elimination bracket to make it into the state championship game. Step one will be tomorrow when they take on Elkhorn at 8am MST on Thursday in Hastings.

Norris vs Northwest 8am MST

Second Round (Thursday October 14)

Scottsbluff/Elkhorn winner vs Skutt Catholic/Bennington loser 1pm MST

Norris/Northwest winner vs Wahoo/Hastings loser 1pm MST
