Local lifeguard shortages in Scottsbluff and Gering
SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) - Currently we are in the middle of nationwide shortages.
Some may be wondering if our area is affected with a lifeguard shortage.
We traveled to two local pools in the Scottsbluff and Gering areas to see if they were dealing with a lifeguard shortage and if they had any.
First, we visited the Gering swimming pool and here is what they had to say.
Hailey Rickey Gering swimming pool manager says “Thankfully we haven’t been dealing with lifeguard or staffing shortages we worked really hard with our staff throughout the school year since we closed last year. We been in contact with them since January making sure they have been getting into their lifeguarding classes. I want to say this is the highest rate of returning lifeguards we had in my six years here.”
Next, we visited the Westmoor Pool in Scottsbluff to see if they had any lifeguard shortages as well and here is what they had to say.
Vanessa Woolsey Westmoor Pool manager in Scottsbluff says “Every facility always deals with lifeguard shortages. Mainly because of the course that is required to become a lifeguard. A lot of the times kids don’t think they can pass the course, so they decide not to become a lifeguard. It is a comprehensive course that takes you step by step, so you are not being thrown into the water and expected to be able to do everything from the gecko.
