US Hot Air Balloon Championships set for August
The 2022 Old West Balloon Fest set for August 8 to August 13.
SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) - The annual Old West Balloon Fest is set for August 8 to August 13 across Scotts Bluff County.
One popular tradition returns again this year, the U.S. Hot Air Balloon Nationals Competition. The country’s top air balloon pilots will take to the sky looking to earn a championship as well as earn trips to the National Balloon Festival later in the year.
Pilots must complete tasks which includes dropping bags on targets each morning across Scotts Bluff County to gain points. The highest point getter at the end of the week claims the title.
Most tasks will take place around 6am with most balloons completing their runs around 8am. Competition begins August 9 and runs through August 13.
Old West Balloon Fest will also feature two mass ascensions August 12 and August 13 in Mitchell. As well as two night glows August 10 at Western Nebraska Community College and August 13 at Five Rocks in Gering.
