WNCC volleyball team ends national tournament with 6th place finish

Cougars go the distance with Salt Lake Community College but falls in 5th Place Match Saturday.

West Plains, Mo. (KNEP) - The Western Nebraska Community College volleyball team’s first loss of the season was their final loss of the season as the Cougars came up a couple points short to Salt Lake Community College on the final day of the NJCAA National Volleyball Tournament.

Salt Lake would defeat the Cougars back in September in five sets and on Saturday the two teams went five again this time for 5th place at the national tournament with the Bruins holding off WNCC (25-15, 23-25, 25-21, 26-28, 15-12).

WNCC had three players reach double digits in kills Erica Fava, Jenna Curtis, and Ale Meoni. Meoni leading the way with 15 kills. While Curtis also had 15 digs to go with her 12 kills. AK Chavez chipped in with 17 kills for the Cougars.

Western Nebraska ends the season at 34-5 on the season and a sixth place national tournament finish. They will say good bye to sophomores Erica Fava, Jayla Brehmer, Ale Meoni, Alex Hernandez, Jenna Curtis, Juliana Oliveira, Angel Nahinu, Lexi Keoho, and AK Chavez.
