SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) - The Weekend Backpack Food Program is now accepting Venmo as a new form of donations.

Venmo will take 1.9% plus 0.10 cents out of each donation to cover fees.

The Catpacks and PupPacks program delivers 15 food items per week to families in need.

Food items consist of non-perishable food items, veggies, soups, fresh fruit, and foods that are easy to open and cook for children if no one is home to help them.

Deb Schild from the Weekend Backpack Program says “This year we have seen a huge increase in our number of students. We are geting real close to 400 between Scottsbluff and Gering, with the increase we are seeing that are funds are getting slim and the cost of food has gone up. Our bags used to cost $5 a bag and they are now costing us $7.50 to $8 per bag to send home. That is why we are going through Venmo just to see if we can get more donations to help us finish out this year and know that we have some money in the bank to begin this program next year.”
