City of Gering to increase access to solar energy
GERING, Neb. (KNEP) - The City of Gering will be increasing its access to solar energy.
On Monday, the Gering City Council discussed and passed a new agreement to be made between the City of Gering, Sandhills Energy, and the Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska. This agreement will allow more land to be leased to Sandhills Energy to allow for the development of a new solar project. The proposed project will be on 16.4 acres just east of the Gering water treatment plant. This will be an increase from the eight acres already leased to Sandhills Energy.
The lease agreement will allow Sandhills energy to build a 2.6 megawatt facility on the 16.4 acres, with an agreement of $700 per acre. Pat Heath, City Administrator for the City of Gering said the agreement will pay for itself in the first 11 years.
If people have questions about the new project, the City of Gering can be contacted at 308-436-6800.
