Nebraska governor appoints Saint Paul man to Dist. 41 seat
Dist. 41′s representative post was vacated when Tom Briese was appointed as state treasurer
LINCOLN, Neb. - Gov. Jim Pillen announced his appointment of Fred Meyer of Saint Paul to the Nebraska Legislature Dist. 41 seat on Wednesday.
Meyer was chosen from a pool of 16 applicants to fill the seat vacated by Tom Briese, who was appointed by the governor to serve as State Treasurer.
Meyer was raised on a farm near West Point and currently operates a farm near St. Paul. He graduated from the University of Nebraska Lincoln with a bachelor’s degree in Ag Education and Animal Science. He and his wife, Kay, have three sons and seven grandchildren.
Gov. Pillen highlighted Meyer’s long history of public service including 12 years on the State Board of Education.
In his remarks, Meyer commended Briese’s efforts on property tax relief and expressed his honor in becoming the first state senator from Saint Paul in recent history. Passionate about agriculture and natural resources, Meyer aspires to contribute to relevant committees in the legislature.
Following a brief speech, Meyer took the oath of office, administered by Secretary of State Bob Evnen.
Senator Meyer will only serve the remainder of Senator Briese’s term. He does not intend to run for election to that seat in 2025.
Dist. 41 is comprised of Wheeler, Boone, Greeley, Valley, Sherman, and Howard Counties, as well as portions of Buffalo and Hall Counties.
