COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (Gray Iowa Capitol Bureau) - Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy stopped by western Iowa on Thursday to talk with voters there about his campaign.

An interview-style event hosted by the Iowa Republican Party at the Hilton Garden Inn on Mid America Drive was scheduled to start at 5 p.m. Only a few people were in attendance at that time, and the event’s start-time was pushed back an hour.

More people had filed in by the time Ramaswamy took the stage, at about 6:40 p.m.

Iowa GOP Chairman Jeff Kaufmann lead the question-and-answer discussion with Ramaswamy.

At the last debate, he criticized the Republican National Committee leadership for recent election losses, even calling for the party’s chairwoman to step down. Now, Ramaswamy is acknowledging the importance of the upcoming caucuses.

“Close to game time in Iowa. A decision to make in about 60 days....We need a leader who can win a war...You can’t win if you don’t know you’re in one,” Ramaswamy said.

An Iowa State University poll released today shows a bump in support for Ramaswamy in Iowa moving from five percent to six percent. He will take part in Friday’s conservative FAMiLY Leader Thanksgiving forum with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former UN ambassador Nikki Haley.
